And not because of the rust itself. it's actually because the bacteria that causes tetanus grows on things that are outside for long periods of time. (and rusty metal happens to fall under that category.)

Are you in the medical field? Cause I would love to know more. What other kind of illnesses can someone get from metal. How much do you know about junkyards? Do junkyards having problems like mercury poisoning or acid leaks or fires or junk avalanches?
Assuming it's a standard junk yard, then the only things in it would be old, used, broken machines. So no trash (mold/bacteria/pests) and no crazy chemicals from under the kitchen sink.
Probably no murcury, unless the junkyard is like all about thermometers. Lead poisoning is a threat though. As is burns/poisoning from battery acid (assuming whoever owns the junkyard doesn't take out the batteries like they're supposed to.) Maybe rabies from any animals that live there, but that might be stretching it.
Junk avalanches would only realistically happen if the metal was crazy old, like 100+ years. Or if the junk had been stacked against regulations. (yes there are actually rules for how to fill, load, and manage a junkyard.) Or Or if there was some serious inclement weather.
Hope this helps! let me know if there's anything else I can do.
